Everyone should definitely remember to bring non-perishable (boxed or canned), kid-friendly food for the Backpack Buddies cause! Backpack Buddies, as some know, is where students bring food that is then packed in bags/boxes to give to schools in need. Children at these schools may go hungry on weekends or in the afternoon, because they usually only get food when they're at school through lunch programs. Currently, Collingwood is collecting food for Queen Alexandra Grandview, in East Vancouver. We deliver every 2 weeks, with up to 150 bags of food!
Backpack Buddies does sorting every Thursday after school in the Senior Key room, near room 319. Feel free to drop by and help! And yes, you can get service hours for this.
Also, Backback buddies Halloween for Hunger is coming up! On October 29th to November 1st, you must bring at least 10 dollars worth of non-perishable food (nut-free!) or 10 dollars. You'll earn house points for each donation, and the house with the most donations will be awarded the most points in the end! In addition, on Halloween night, instead of trick-or-treating for candy, you can ask for canned or boxed foods to donate from each house. Spread the word about the cause! It'll be fang-tastic.
