One of the largest service projects each year is Hungry for Change, which takes place after winter break. It spreads awareness about hunger issues and malnutrition around the world, and all funds raised go to charity. This year, proceeds go towards Action Against Hunger and Prince Alexander Project Fund (Provides building materials for Round Square building projects around the world.)
Hungry for Change is a 30 hour famine that's taking place on January 29-30. It starts at 7:00am on the 29th and goes overnight until the 30th. A free lunch will be provided at the end of the famine: 1:20 (senior lunch) on the 30th. Participants will receive 10 service hours for successful completion, but must stay for the afternoon activities to get the hours. Students from grades 9, 10, 11, and 12 can all participate, as there is no over-night stay this year. There will be activities provided for students to do after school from about 3:30pm to 6:30 pm, such as:
-Games
-Spa activities
-Marathon TV shows
-Scavenger Hunt
-Live music
- And a beginning opening with a guest student speaker!
On the 30th it will be a civvies day for all participants along with a celebratory lunch.
Consent forms can be found with and have to be handed in to Mr Pool or Ms Chamberlin by January 24th. Students must try to have at least $50 in pledges for the cause. If there are any questions, contact anyone in Senior Round Square, Ms Chamberlin, Mr Pool or come to a meeting at lunch on Wednesdays.
